Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA) is organising Gozo off the Beaten Track tour next Saturday. The full-day walking tour will visit areas of Gozo that will shed light on its history and increase participants’ appreciation of its beauty.
Among the places to be visited are Xerri’s Grotto, the Santa Verna prehistoric remains and the stunning scenery at Wied il-Mielaħ, site of Gozo’s lesser-known rock window.
Xerri’s Grotto in Xagħra is one of only two caves found in the Maltese islands where stalagmites and stalactites can be seen. It is an important site used by geologists to assist in historical dating.
The tour participants will also visit a traditional farm in Xagħra, home to one of the last remaining active field windmills on the island and walk through the oldest part of the village to the Santa Verna prehistoric remains.
After lunch at a traditional bakery, the tour will continue via a trackless train through the Xwejni saltpans, Wied il-Għasri and the Ta’ Sdieri area to Wied il-Mielaħ coastal window. The tour will end in with a visit to the parish museum in Għarb, the second oldest parish outside Victoria.
Participants meet at Ċirkewwa and board the 9am ferry and return with the 6pm ferry from Mġarr.
This event is open to the public but preference is given to FAA members. The price is €30 for FAA members and €35 for non-members, which includes lunch, transport in Gozo and entry fees related to the tour but does not include the ferry ticket.
