What made you join your student organisation? Why would you recommend it to other students?

I had represented students prior to my University studies, so I recognised its benefits. University Students of Performing Arts’ Association (Upsa) was set up last year to promote performing arts both on campus and in Malta generally, and to encourage student activism and a sense of collectivity. Being involved in a student organisation is a positive experience and a hands-on opportunity to be introduced to the processes and challenges of the outside world. I decided to join Insite as it has a reputation of reporting student news, views and current affairs that makes it popular among readers. Its continuous evolution makes it appealing to all students who wish to voice their opinions and/or pursue a career in journalism. We provide ongoing internships with notable broadcasting companies. I was encouraged to join the Department of English Student Association (Desa) two years ago by the then first year student representative. I highly recommend students to join organisations like Desa because it helps them make the most of their experience on campus. Leon Xuereb

Do these organisations have enough say in the running of University? Can they truly make a change?

I regard student organisations as a means to put students’ voices forward collectively and united as one, thereby creating a stronger impact. Stephanie Bonnici

If students join an organisation and form a united front for or against a principle they believe in, they have a say and eventually can make a change. Deborah Faye Mercieca

Organisations on campus serve as the main voice for the student body. Changes have been made and continue to be made with the wellbeing of both present and future students in mind. Leon Xuereb
