The scrappage scheme launched in December has now been extended with a further €400,000 being allocated to it.

Transport Malta said today it will be receiving further applications for the grant, which would be processed on a first come first serve basis.

The initiative is aimed to encourage people dispose of their old vehicles and invest in new ones with lower emissions.

A total of 508 vehicles have already benefitted from the original €400,000 allocated during last December.

Vehicle owners who applied for the scheme were entitled to between €700 and €900 upon the purchase of a new vehicle that qualified for the grant scheme while at the same time de-registering a vehicle in the same category.

Applications for the scheme are available from Transport Malta, Vehicle Licensing Unit, Hornsworks Ditch, Floriana or downloaded here.

The scheme in the form of a grant to incentivise the purchase of battery electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles and battery electric quadricycles is still applicable.
