Celtic boss Ronny Deila will appeal Dedryck Boyata’s red card against Hamilton at New Douglas Park on Friday night.

The Hoops defender was sent off for a challenge on Accies striker Carlton Morris just outside the box during the 1-1 draw.

Afterwards, Deila said the decision was correct but yesterday he changed his mind.

He said: “I have seen it many times on video and I think it is a wrong decision because he was on the ball. We will therefore appeal it.”

Hiddink seeks doctors’ backing

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has urged doctors at the English FA and Premier League clubs to stand up against a gruelling fixture list.

Chelsea have to play four games in 12 days across three competitions after the club’s sixth round FA Cup tie with Everton was scheduled for March 12.

“Hopefully, the Paris SG game doesn’t go into extra time because players need time when the intensity of the league is like it is,” Hiddink said.

“The medical people at the FA and the Premier League should make this known. Doctors should stand up and say: ‘FA, television, whoever.... hey’.”

Pique not joining Guardiola at City

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has ruled out any chance of him following Pep Guardiola to Manchester City this summer due to his “love” for United.

Guardiola will take over at City this summer and there has already been plenty of speculation about which stars the Bayern Munich coach might try to bring to the Etihad Stadium.

Pique, who spent four years at Old Trafford before becoming a key member of Guardiola’s all-conquering Barcelona, said: “My love for Manchester United is too great for me to sign for City, even though Pep is a great coach.

“I’m very happy in Barcelona. United are my second club, but my future is at Barca.”

PSG get wake-up call, says club chief

The ending of PSG’s league record 36-game undefeated streak could serve as a wake-up call to the squad, according to president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Maxwell Cornet and Sergi Darder put hosts Lyon 2-0 up. The runaway leaders replied through Lucas Moura but it was not enough to prevent their first Ligue 1 defeat since they were sunk 3-2 at Bordeaux in March 2015.

“We are not the best team in the world and it’s good to lose,” Al-Khelaifi said.

“It serves as a reminder to the players.”

PSG’s chances of beating the record unbeaten sequence of 32 games in a single league season, set by Nantes in 1994-95, were wrecked by the Lyon defeat.

Bendtner a ‘failure’ at Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg director of sport Klaus Allofs has branded Nicklas Bendtner a failure, saying he has been unable to deliver on the expectations when he joined the club from Arsenal 18 months ago.

The Dane penned a three-year contract with the Wolves after Arsenal had sent him out on a series of loan spells with Birmingham, Sunderland and Juve.

He failed to make a lasting impression at any of his previous clubs and Allofs feels the signs are not good at his club either.

“He’s a player with extraordinary ability, but he never manages to go beyond this point,” Allofs said.

“At the moment, it doesn’t look like he can help us. The experiment can be seen as a failure.”

Bendtner has started only four times in the Bundesliga this season, while he has been left out of the squad for Wolfsburg’s last three matches.

Cech response

Arsenal were dealt a severe blow to their Premier League title hopes with Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United but can quickly get back on track with two wins in four days, goalkeeper Petr Cech has said.

The Gunners are five points behind leaders Leicester City but Cech said the table would look healthy for them again if they could beat Swansea at home tomorrow and Tottenham in Saturday’s North London derby.

“This was a big disappointment for us,” he said.

“This is a step back but we need to keep working. We have two important games coming up and if we win both, the table might look better again.”

Hoeness given early release from jail

Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has been released from prison on suspension after serving half of his jail term for tax evasion.

The former Bayern Munich player was convicted in March 2014 for evading €28.5m in taxes.

The 1974 World Cup winner stepped down from his post at Bayern and started his jail term in June 2014.

From early 2015 he was able to leave prison during the day and work at Bayern’s youth department before returning in the evening.
