Gozitans this afternoon took part in a pilgrimage led by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech for rain.
The pilgrimage was preceded by Mass at the Qala parish church which was packed with parishioners.
In his homily, Bishop Grech spoke about the need to conserve water and brought up environmental issues such as climate change saying that everyone could do their bit to create awareness and respect nature.
Pilgrims then walked from the parish to the old church of the Assumption, also in Qala, carrying a statue of the redeemer.
The pilgrimage was held following the concerns of many farmers who were seeing their fields parched owing to a shortage of rain.
The Muslim community in Malta, led by Imam Mohammed Elsadi also held special prayers for rain last Friday.
