Fashion trends are most often a reflection upon the development in current social beliefs and ideas. Currently the drive seems to be to create something unique, something different.

Within the fashion world there is also a need to reference the past, to give something that ‘preloved’ feeling. There is also a current drive of seeming nonchalant about it all and this is also very evident on the street - from dishevelled hair styles , to barely-there makeup, ‘undone’ has never been so in popular.

For one of the first times at fashion week, flat footwear is reigning both out on the street and even on the catwalk.

Markus Lupfer

Markus Lupfer’s presentation was a wonderful combination of originality, quirkiness and masculine undertones. The collection is inspired by the 24 hour woman, a girl that never sleeps.

His show is always highlight at London Fashion Week and this can be confirmed by the number of people who turned up to his presentation despite the brutal weather.

The designer has also recently made the move to include more accessories, especially bags and there were some cute numbers. The collection builds from last season’s, once again florals are given prominence but in a cheeky manner.

Interesting details will always be one the best things about Markus Lupfer;’s designs. Hand finished embroidery is one such detail along with flashes of metallic on viscose crepe mini dresses.

The colour palette is a rich one - aubergine, navy, forest green are all given prominence. The collection feels rich and playful, fun but not childish.

Phoebe English

Phoebe English is a very clever designer who specialises in the creation of deconstructed clothing. Her presentation depicted a common, everyday horror story many of us encounter - a doctor’s waiting room.

The soundtrack included the line your call is very important to us, please hold the line” on repeat. The models were the patients in the waiting room and one new model gets ‘examined’ as the number shown on screen chances.

Phoebe English works with many layers and textiles this season, her clothes evoke this sense of deconstructed looks, of clothes that have been pulled apart and put together again.

Black was the predominant colour in this collection but the palette extended towards monochrome and oxblood. Outfits consisted of different layers and textures - wool, leather and silk are present within a single outfit.

Asymmetrical cuts and features are an important element to her designs, something that you can almost expect to find in her work. There were also purposefully shredded sequins, and string and silk weaving details.
