Are you using the new car pooling system at University? Why?

While I really love the idea, most of my friends simply walk to University, while others are juggling work and University, which makes it difficult to car pool. Michelle Grech, Bachelor of Laws (Hons), 3rd year.

I car pool with my course mates almost every day but I don’t use the KSU system mainly because all my lectures are at Mater Dei’s medical school so I find the main parking area at University or Mater Dei more efficient. Matthew DeBattista, Diploma in Nursing, 3rd year.

Unfortunately no. Much as I would love to (mainly as a driver) my timetable is hectic as I’m often trying to fit in a variety of things during the day. Moreover I spend quite some time away from University due to teaching practice. Julia Farrugia, PGCE in English.

Is it effective, and efficient?

While it is surely not a solution to the problem, it has been effective as the car pooling parking area is always full. That means a number of cars are off the road. I can’t say whether it’s efficient as I have personally not used it. Michelle Grech

The car pooling parking area is heavily used, which shows that students are benefiting from it. It’s fairly efficient. Matthew DeBattista

Definitely! Within the first week it was clear that people were car pooling. The system was clearly thought out and offers the right kind of incentive, rather than simply increasing parking spaces. Julia Farrugia

In the long run, will it solve the current parking situation?

It won’t entirely solve the parking problem, but if applied to other car parks it will surely help. Supporting this idea will inspire people to be creative. Michelle Grech

It will help. Having more areas like this would surely make it easier to find parking in the morning. But there are too many students at University to instantly solve the parking situation. Matthew Debattista

If coupled with other systems, yes. People who live close to University still drive there when they could walk, cycle, or use a shuttle service. If public transport met students’ needs there would certainly be fewer cars on the roads. Julia Farrugia
