Last weekend’s second pre-season meeting at the Matthew Micallef St John Athletics Stadium produced another spate of encouraging results for this time of the season.

In all, five new records in various categories were set in throwing events despite the inclement weather and the strong winds howling from all directions of the venue at Marsa.

The new records were established by Sarah Chouhal (AS Libertas), Karol Spiteri (Savio AC), Luca Martini (La Salle), Joanne Vella (Pembroke Athleta) and Luke Farrugia (Pembroke Athleta).

Chouhal pushed the hammer throw record for women cadets to 37.12m and Martini cleared 42.24m in the same event for youths.

Spiteri launched his discus 38.82m in the youth category.

In the javelin events, Vella registered 41.86m, a record in women’s open, and Farrugia cleared 45.99m in his category.

Other notable results in throwing events were those of Mario Mifsud, Rachid Chouhal, Antonella Chouhal, Catriona Cuschieri and Martina Borg.
