Steve Camilleri’s honour on Saturday as Malta’s sportsman of the year on the basis of his feats in 2015, coincided with the waterpolo stalwart netting three goals on the same day for CC Ortigia.

He helped the side in the Italian top division to beat RN Florentia 9-7 and climb to a safer place in the 14-team table.

After his achievement when heading the scorers’ list with 21 goals in the European Championship finals last month, Camilleri was a marked man when returning to Italy and failed to find the net against Cannottieri Napoli and AN Brescia.

Ortigia lost against AN Brescia and could only share the spoils against the Neapolitans.

The latest hat-trick against the opponents from Florence again propelled the Neptunes player to the summit of Ortigia’s scorers list with 30 goals from 15 matches, just ahead of Montenegro’s other ace scorer Damjan Danilovic.

This total still leaves Camilleri in the top bracket of the overall list of strikers in the Italian major league.
