Is higher education in Malta broad enough to cater for your future career?

The courses offered here are strong enough to build a solid foundation for studies, but not enough to refine and specialise. While my degree is sufficient for me to find a job to start with, it does not promise much else.

Siobhan Vassallo, Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons), 3rd year.

Yes, because my course is based on what is most in demand in the Maltese IT industry so it will help further my career in it.

Matthew Borg, Advanced Diploma in IT, Mcast.

I believe that it is enough to serve as a strong basis for my future career but it tends to lack the opportunity to specialise.

Nicole Borg, Bachelor in Communications (Hons) with Theatre Studies.

If you had to further your studies abroad would you? Why?

Yes, I will definitely do a Master’s degree abroad. Internationally there are a lot more opportunities in areas such as the arts than in Malta, although there has been reasonable improvement.

Siobhan Vassallo

If I could further my studies abroad I would, because it would be both a great experience and helpful should I want to work abroad in the future.

Matthew Borg

Yes, I am hoping to do my Master’s abroad because there are many more opportunities when it comes to choosing a profession, especially in an area such as communications.

Nicole Borg

How could the University and Mcast courses provide a more holistic way of understanding of your area of study?

It is important to incorporate more aspects of the world of work in courses. Holding meetings with prospective employers and providing opportunities such as internships would definitely improve job possibilities for students.

Siobhan Vassallo

IT sessions would improve if the PCs at the labs were upgraded as most do not work properly.

Matthew Borg

Practical sessions should accompany theory and students should be able to work in areas they are studying for as part of the course to better understand what is expected of them after they graduate.
