Q: Some months ago, my electric hob developed a fault, so I took it to the company where I bought it from to have it repaired.
The hob is no longer under guarantee, so I asked for a quote and agreed to have it repaired at the quoted price.
After some time, it was returned to me and I paid for the repair. However, I had to resend it to the workshop because the problem was not resolved after the repair.
The trader informed me that they had changed several parts of the motherboard and still couldn’t find out what was causing the hob to switch off.
Instead of refunding the money paid for the repair, the seller is offering me a discount on a new hob. I would like to know if we can keep our old hob if we decided to accept his offer.
A: Considering that the repair carried out did not fix the fault the hob had, you may ask for a refund of the money paid for the repair.
You are not obliged to buy another hob from this seller and have the amount you paid for the repair reduced from the new purchase. If, however, you opt to do so, you have the right to keep the faulty hob.
