St Andrew’s and Tarxien Rainbows took a point each in a 1-1 draw at the Hibs Stadium.

The Saints threatened after two minutes when from a free-kick action, Jonatan Perez Cuestra’s curling drive finished just over.

The Spanish midfielder threatened again on 22 minutes but his firm drive was blocked by Andrea Cassar, the Tarxien goalkeeper.

The Rainbows finally came to life on 29 minutes when Carlos Hevia was denied by St Andrew’s goalkeeper Jake Galea.

Tarxien showed more urgency at the start of the second half and on 47 minutes Alex Alves sped into the area before teeing up Joao Pedro who fired over.

A minute later, Joao Pedro turned provider when his inswinger was met by Triston Caruana who headed the ball onto the crossbar.

The Rainbows’ pressure finally yielded an opener on 57 minutes when Joao Pedro forced his way into the area before setting up Luke Montebello who drilled the ball past Galea.

But Tarxien’s joy was shortlived as four minutes later Salomon Rondon’s low cross was bundled into the net by Nwoko.

On 63 minutes Bon Won Che almost piled more misery on Tarxien but his thumping header, from a Farrugia corner-kick, finished just over.

Montebello almost won it for Tarxien in stoppage time but the towering forward hit his shot over the bar.

St Andrew’s Victor Oseghale was voted as the BOV Player of the match
