A total of 453,306 calls were made to emergency number 112 last year, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said this morning.

Speaking at Carlo Diacono secondary school in Zejtun, the minister said that that the number of hoax calls dropped from 7,000 in 2014 to 3,280 last year.
The busiest month was July and the quietest February.

A total of 19,000 calls were genuine wrong number calls. This, the minister said, was due to the directory number being 1182.

Health Parliamentary Secretary Chris Fearne said the ambulance service received 90 112 calls a day, half of them life threatening.
