The government has welcomed figures showing the number of full-time employees at 177,262 in August.

“This means that in the first 30 months of this administration, full-time jobs increased by 16,936, whereas in the previous five years the increase was of 11,250,” the government said.

It pointed out that the biggest increase was in private services. There was an increase of almost 3,000 jobs in administrative services, 1,300 in technical  and professional services and 1,400 each in ITC and retail.

There was also an increase of 350 in manufacturing and 500 in construction. Both sectors saw declines in the past.

The government said eight out of every 10 new jobs created in this legislature was in the private sector. Public sector employment was now 25.8% of all full-time employment, compared to 26.7% at the end of the previous legislature.

It also noted that full-time jobs in Gozo had increased by 968, double in the increase in the five years of the previous legislature.
