More than 120 million contraband cigarettes were seized since March 2013, according to information given in Parliament.

Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said more than five million contraband cigarettes destined for the local market were confiscated and another 115,280,000 intercepted while in transit to other countries.

The minister, who was replying to a question tabled by Anthony Agius Decelis (Labour), said that other smuggled goods intended for the local market included more than 32,000 bottles of wine, 1,158 mobile phones and 4,182 pyrotechnic products.
