Former Labour MP Marlene Farrugia has hit out at the Labour Party for neither being a party, nor Labour.

In a Facebook post above a report in Times of Malta about Konrad Mizzi being the only candidate for the PL deputy leadership race, Dr Farrugia recalled how Labour had strongly criticised Lawrence Gonzi for being in a one-horse race.

"Yet the PL has even copied the PN on this," she said.

"How can a party which destroyed democracy within itself convince the people that it can govern the country in a democratic manner," she asked.

It was obvious, from recent and not-so-recent scandals that a few businessmen were pulling the strings of people's representatives so that the country could be run like a business, where only profit counted.

Labour, she recalled, had criticied the PN for being an oligarchy but Labour was now the same, with less competence.

Labour had criticised the manner how magistrates were appointed, and then did worse.

It had hit out at environmental scars, and inflicted worse ones.

Labour used to criticise the former government for robbing the people with high energy prices. Yet now the oil price was $30 a barrel and the Maltese were still paying at rates for a high oil price.

The PN used to be criticised for selling the family silver, yet Labour in 30 months sold or distributed what remained to its friends.

Labour used to cry shame over the cancer factory, yet half the legislature was past and the 'cancer factory' was still there. To make matters worse, there was chaos in the traffic sector.

A fuss was raised in the past when the PN government failed to disclose a section of the contract with BWSC. Now Labour was honouring the person who hid contracts from the people and sold the people's property, by making him deputy leader.

All this and more was not what the people had expected when they voted Labour three years ago, Dr Farrugia argued. Only faces had changed. Governance remained the same, and had even deteriorated.

The people were being distracted and fed crumbs while a small group did very well and consolidated their absolute power.

It was about time the people stopped what was going on, she said. They deserved better.
