Arsenal have snapped up Leicester’s head of technical scouting Ben Wrigglesworth.

He worked under head of recruitment Steve Walsh at the Foxes but has now joined their title rivals, reports said yesterday.

An account claiming to be from Wrigglesworth on social media confirmed the move.

“After three-and-a-half unbelievable seasons, working with amazing people, I am now starting a new chapter,” he wrote.

Wrigglesworth had been part of the scouting team which has helped the Foxes to the top of the Premier League although any targets likely to be signed by Leicester go through a due diligence process rather than one individual.

Di Canio applies for Rotherham job

Former Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio has made a second bid to become Rotherham manager.

The Italian, who has been without a club since leaving Sunderland in September 2013, has applied for the Millers job following the sacking of Neil Redfearn on Monday.

He also wanted the job at the New York Stadium in September after Steve Evans was sacked, though did not get an interview.

Di Canio left Sunderland after a whirlwind 13 games at the Stadium of Light where, after initially keeping them in the Premier League, things turned sour the following season, with reports of a player revolt.

Everton takeover

Everton appear to be edging closer to a takeover after talks with American investors John Jay Moores and Charles Noell progressed, reports said yesterday.

Moores, the former owner of Major League Baseball franchise San Diego Padres, and his associate have been in negotiations since December.

The pair have undergone a six-week due diligence period looking at the club’s books and speaking to major shareholders chairman Bill Kenwright, Robert Earl and Jon Woods.

PA Sport said the Americans are looking to secure a deal for £200m in the next few weeks.

New logo

The English Premier League has unveiled its new logo, to be used from the start of next season.

The crowned lion with one paw resting on a football from the current design does feature again, although the new image consists only of its head.

Reports last month had suggested the animal might be dropped entirely in the rebrand.

The image is accompanied by the words ‘Premier League’ in a different style of lettering to that used in the present ‘Barclays Premier League’ motif.

The competition has been promoted and marketed as the Barclays Premier League, with the same logo, since 2007-08.

Messi has tests for kidney problems

Barcelona striker Lionel Messi is expected to play in today’s King’s Cup semi-final against Valencia despite missing training on Monday to have tests on his kidneys.

“Barcelona striker Lionel Messi will undergo several tests to assess the evolution of the kidney problems he suffered last December,” Barcelona said in a statement.

“Messi will return to his normal duties with the first team on Wednesday (today).”

The Argentina international missed his team’s FIFA Club World Cup semi-final in December as he was suffering from renal colic, a type of abdominal pain often caused by kidney stones.

Barcelona visit Valencia in the second leg of their King’s Cup semi-final today. They take a 7-0 lead into the match.

Derrick, Montagliani launch their bids

Caribbean Football Union president Gordon Derrick and Canadian Soccer Association chief Victor Montagliani announced they will stand as candidates for the presidency of the troubled CONCACAF regional confederation.

CONCACAF, which governs soccer in North and Central America and the Caribbean, has had its last three presidents all indicted by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) as part of the wide-ranging investigation of world governing body FIFA.

The body has been without a leader since December and will vote for a new president in May.

Mark Rodriguez, of Guyana, and Larry Mussenden, of Ber-muda, have already said they will run for the post.

Januzaj limps out of reserves match

Belgium winger Adnan Januzaj sustained what looked like a hamstring injury while playing for Manchester United U-21s against Norwich on Monday, the club’s website has reported.

The 21-year-old “appeared to be holding his hamstring” when he pulled up in the first half of United’s 7-0 victory at Old Trafford and was substituted soon afterwards.

Januzaj has struggled to break into the first-team under Louis van Gaal and recently returned from a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund, where he failed to score for the German side in 12 appearances.
