More changes to the bus service are to be rolled out in the coming weeks, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said today.

Acknowledging that the service was still flawed, the minister said he was aware that many were not satisfied with the service and transport Malta was trying to address most of the complaints.

“We have noted every complaint and will try to improve things that can be improved,” Mr Mizzi said. He was giving comments to the press after a press conference launching of the Malta Maritime Summit, to be held in October.

Asked when commuters should expect these changes, the minister said he would be announcing specific details at a later stage and reiterated that changes will keep on being made until the system’s standard is raised.

“Later on, I will be announcing the exact timeframe when the changes will come into effect. We cannot introduce all the changes at once as that will cause more problems, as was the case the last time” he said.

Mr Mizzi said that most commuters complained about the Mater Dei routes and those in San Gwann. Others, he said, complained about the change in the location of certain bus stops.

In a reaction, the Nationalist Party said the minister's declaration only confirmed the government's failure.

Shadow minister Marthese Portelli said said the system the government had inherited was not perfect, but the current one is worse, and yet taxpayers were paying three times in subsidies to the Spanish operator.
