A drug addict has been condemned to community work after pleading guilty to stealing €2,500 worth of perfumes to sustain his drug addiction.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud heard how the man, whose name cannot be published, has since kicked the habit is now working with drug addicts to help them kick the habit.

The court heard how the 38-year-old man from Għargħur, stole the perfumes from a store in Naxxar in April 2013.

After taking into consideration the fact that the man had reformed and was now on the right track and had a stable job, Magistrate Mifsud condemned him to 100 hours of community work and ordered him to repay the victim the amount stolen.

Police Inspector James Grech prosecuted while lawyer Lucio Sciriha appeared for the man.
