The government has urged local councils to change waste collection times to avoid traffic congestion, Parliamentary Secretary Stefan Buontempo said.

He said the traffic problem was directly linked to the volume of vehicles on the road at a given time. Since most vehicles collecting domestic waste were bulky, often blocking the roads, they should not be used during peak traffic times, especially when school transport was at its best and the rush hours.
