According to Escape (The Sunday Times of Malta, January 24), this year’s Qarċilla will be performed at St John’s Square, presumably in front of St John’s Co-Cathedral, in Valletta.

Why hold such an irreverent and satirical performance, which is strictly adult material due to its lewd innuendos, at such a venue?

Surely there are various other places in Valletta where the performances could be held without hurting the religious sentiments of the majority?
