Father’s footsteps: Bristol City have appointed Lee Johnson as head coach on a three-and-a-half year contract. The 34-year-old was given permission to speak to the Robins on Friday after the Championship strugglers triggered a release clause in his contract at Barnsley. Johnson’s dad, Gary, managed City from 2005 to 2010 and took them to within 90 minutes of the Premier League when they lost to Hull City in the 2008 play-off final.

Estigarribia: Uruguay winger Marcelo Estigarribia will not play in the Serie A this season after Atalanta decided to return him to Deportivo Maldonado where he had been on loan. Estigarribia, 28, had joined Atalanta in January 2014 but failed to impress and also had a spell with Chievo. Maldonado confirmed the move and announced they had loaned Estigarribia to Cerro Porteno.

Moyes: David Moyes told reporters yesterday that he was offered a job in China. Moyes was sacked by Manchester United in April 2014 after 10 months in charge, before spending a year at Real Sociedad in Spain. “My heart has always been in the English Premier League. I’ve had an offer to go to China as well,” said Moyes, 52. On the prospect of coaching an international team, Moyes said: “I would have an interest but at the moment it is club management.”

Welbeck: Forward Danny Welbeck played 60 minutes for Arsenal Under-21s in a match against Brighton on Friday having been out for almost 10 months with a knee injury. Welbeck continued on his path of recovery by playing against the Seagulls at the Gunners’ training base in London Colney. Arsenal led 3-0 when Welbeck was replaced but the England international did not manage to get himself on the scoresheet.

Perez: Serie A club Fiorentina have signed talented US winger Joshua Perez, reports said yesterday. According to ItaSportPress.it, the Florence outfit completed the transfer of Perez, a close relative of former US international Hugo Perez. “Very happy to announce that I have officially signed with @acfiorentina and I want to thank all my friends and family for supporting me,” Perez, 18, said on his twitter account.
