The European Refugee Fund (ERF), which forms part of the General Programme Solidarity and Management of Migration Flows, supports EU member states’ efforts in receiving refugees and displaced people and guaranteeing access to consistent, fair and effective asylum procedures.

The fund also supports resettlement programmes and actions related to the integration of people whose stay is of a lasting and stable nature. Moreover, it provides for emergency measures to address the sudden arrival of a large number of people who may be in need of international protection.

An ERF project (ERF 2013-01) was implemented by the Detention Service, aimed at providing daily food supplies to immigrants residing at Safi and Ħal Far closed detention centres between January 2013 and September 2013.

The aim of this project is that upon arrival at the detention centres asylum seekers are provided with a reliable supply of food on a daily basis.

The total cost of this project amounted to €20,673.81, 75 per cent (€15,505.36) of which were funded by the EU and the remaining through national funds.
