A future Nationalist government will appoint members to the judiciary based on the Bonello commission recommendations, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said this morning.

While the Prime Minister and the Justice Minister are making a mockery even in the judiciary and the justice system, the PN government will change the system of appointments, Dr Busuttil told a news conference.

He was speaking in the wake of two nominations to the judiciary which sparked controversy this week. Lawyer Ingrid Zammit Young has even written to the Prime Minister saying she did not want to be considered for the post in light of of all the doubts surrounding her nomination.

"While Joseph Muscat just talks about reforms we will walk the talk. As soon as we are in government all members of the judiciary will be made according to the recommendations of the Bonello commission," Dr Busuttil said.

The Bonello commission said it should be a specialised authority that should decide on the nominations of magistrates and judges with the government having the final say.

Dr Busuttil said the Labour government is in a race towards the bottom where it comes to governance and the PN will stop it.

He accused the Prime Minister of nepotism even at the expense of breaking the constitution.

Dr Busuttil also urged the government to immediately withdraw the nomination of Caroline Farrugia Frendo - the Speaker's daughter - since she does not have the necessary requisites for the job, according to the constitution.
