Local councils have been requested to change refuse collection times to try to reduce traffic, the Local Government Parliamentary Secretary said this morning.

Since most vehicles picking up domestic waste are bulky, often blocking the roads, they should not be used during peak traffic times, especially during school transport times and rush hours, Stefan Buontempo said.

"Such an initiative is being taken to reduce the inconvenience and tension for residents and anybody using the roads during busy times."
