Laguna Walk at Smart City will this weekend be hosting one of the most prestigious international cat shows.

The 56th and 57th show of the Malta Feline Guardians Club (MFGC) is being held tomorrow from 3 to 7pm, and Sunday from 10.30am to 6.30pm.

Two international World Cat Federation all-breed judges Carl-Heinz Knelangen, from Germany, and Tomas Balchiunas, from Lithuania, will be travelling to Malta to judge this competition.

The two-day show will consist of several fun activities for all of the exhibitors and the public visiting the show.

The organisers will be hosting three WCF rings, one for adult cats, one for kittens and one for neutered cats, along with five specialty fun classes. These classes are minor competitions, where cats are not judged for being best in show, but are judged for being the best in one particular area, such as best solid colour, best fluffy tail, or best blue eyes.

Since the show is being held during the carnival weekend, the organisers will be hosting a best carnival cat competition, where participating cats will have a carnival themed costume.

For this show, the club will also be asking the public to vote for their favourite cat in show. At the end of the show on Sunday, the votes will be counted, and the cat with the highest votes will be awarded this title. The opinion of the public is very important, so the public is being urged to visit the show, and vote for their favourite cat. Entrance is free.

The best Facebook cat competition winner will be announced on Sunday. All one has to do is to log into the Facebook page Malta Cat Shows, find the best Facebook cat competition album, and hit like on a favourite cat.

Several breeds are expected to participate in the show, including Persians, exotics, Maine-coon, Bengal, sphinx, Devon Rex, British short hair and many others.

Exhibitors will be both local and foreign.

Information about cat breeding will be provided through fun classes organised throughout the exhibition, where international all-breed judges will explain about the specific breeds being presented to them.

Cat owners wishing to exhibit their cat can do so by contacting the organising committee. This would be an ideal experience where one can integrate with experienced exhibitors both local and foreign and also present the cat in front of international judges who can help by explaining in detail the features of one’s cat and its specific breed.
