A man accused of allowing his 10-year-old daughter and her friend to watch porn films on his mobile phone was yesterday remandedin custody.

The 36-year-old man, whose name cannot be mentioned by court order to protect the victims, was accused of defiling both girls.

The incident allegedly took place on October 1, when the girls were at his home in Rabat and he gave his daughter his mobile phone to use. The accused does not live with his daughter’s mother.

The girl told her mother about what she had seen at her father’s house and the police were informed.

Police inspector Joseph Busuttil told Magistrate Neville Camilleri the girl could not have made up the story because her description of what she had seen on the mobile was too detailed.

Her father pleaded not guilty. His defence lawyer, Victor Bugeja, requested bail but the prosecution strongly objected and pointed out the minors had still to testify.

Arguing the accused could have forgotten he had pornographic material on the phone, Dr Bugeja noted that his client could be ordered not to approach his daughter or the locality where she lived.

However, the court turned down the request for bail.
