In reply to Friday’s letter by Gillian Cousins, who asked why Muslims could not follow the law of the land –well they did, they got permission from the council, as the law requires.

Furthermore, there are many Muslim countries that have Christian minorities, where they are allowed to celebrate in public. Why should Malta emulate the few most repressive and conservative ones that restrict freedom of religion?

Perhaps we should revert to a medieval justice system, somewhat like Saudi Arabia, and reinstate the Inquisition while we are at it. Finally, to answer why they cannot go to Paola to pray, maybe that question should be asked of Transport Malta.

A lot of Muslims live or work around Msida, and I for one would not be able to make a quick trip to the mosque in Paola in the middle of a working day, using public transport, if I wanted to.

I don’t see how these people are disturbing so many others who don’t even live here. It’s not like they are letting off petards in the middle of the night.

I hope one day humanity starts to take responsibility for itself and cease leaning on imaginary friends. In the meantime, at least we can live and let live – freedomof religion and right to peaceful assembly are after all ourhuman rights.
