The Malta Tennis Federation (MTF) marked its 50th anniversary during the governing body’s Annual General Meeting held at the Excelsior Hotel last week.

Four former presidents of the federation and one of its founding members, Oswald Tanti, were also present for the occasion.

Current MTF president David Farrugia Sacco reviewed the past 50 years of the federation and the many notable achievements registered by past presidents and players.

During his speech, Dr Farrugia Sacco announced that the Federation was planning to build a National Tennis Centre.

He said there are plans in store to build a six-court facility that will become the hub of tennis in Malta.

Dr Farrugia Sacco said that the new facility will support both the senior and junior national teams while it will also offer training and continuous development for coaches.

The new complex will also serve as a centre of excellence for U-10 tennis players in Malta.

Among the guests for the Annual General Meeting were the federation’s main sponsors, Bank of Valletta, Maltese Olympic Committee secretary Joe Cassar as well as several national team players.
