iCarbonX has chosen Malta as the first international base of a project aimed at developing an artificial intelligence platform to facilitate research related to the treatment of diseases, preventive care and precision nutrition.

iCarbonX founder and CEO Jun Wang was the co-founder and former CEO of genome-sequencing powerhouse BGI that in 2013 acquired California-based Complete Genomics. He is a renowned expert in genomics and artificial intelligence, and is concurrently a professor at the University of Copenhagen.

iCarbonX Malta will be based at the Malta Life Sciences Park.

Upon its launch in 2015, Shenzhen-based iCarbonX was heralded in the international business press as the “next Google in biotech”.

Hyundai i20 Active Cross now available in Malta

Hyundai Malta’s first model of 2016, the Hyundai i20 Active Cross, is now on display at Hyundai’s showroom in Valley Road, Birkirkara.

The i20 Active Cross is a combination of sporty hatchback with the all-round capabilities of an SUV.

Air Malta to fly to/from 30 destinations this summer

Air Malta is planning an enhanced summer 2016 flight schedule that will see improved flight timings on Manchester, Catania, Vienna, Lyon and Marseille and increased frequency on Berlin.

The Maltese airline will continue being the largest operator to London and the UK, offering a selection of 30 weekly flights to seven airports.

With this schedule, running from March 27 till October 29, Air Malta aims to carry over one million passengers.

A number of changes to last year’s summer schedule were made to maximise opportunities, increase efficiency and make flights more attractive. Air Malta will be operating 135 scheduled flights a week.

This summer Air Malta is also planning an interesting programme for Maltese and foreign charter operators. Discussions with charter operators are currently under way.

Green companies awarded

Arrow Pharm and Elepac have been awarded for their commitment to sustainable development in the eighth edition of the Environment Awards for Industry, organised by the Cleaner Technology Centre.

Arrow Pharm won the management award, while Elepac won the conservation award.

A special award for enduring commitment to environmental protection went to ST Microelectronics (Malta) Ltd.

The winners are eligible to take part in the European Business Award for the environment, organised by the EU Commission.
