The following are the top stories in the Maltese newspapers.

Times of Malta says delays in restoration works in Victoria, Gozo, has led to a loss of about €1m in EU funds. A ministry spokesman said the funds may be used elsewhere. The newspaper also reports that minister Konrad Mizzi appears to be touted to become new PL deputy leader for party affairs.

The Malta Independent quotes Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis saying it is too early to say  whether there will be job losses at Air Malta.

In-Nazzjon says Chris Fearne has confirmed that a prisoner who died last week suffered Swine Flu, whose variant is now considered seasonal flu.

l-orizzont says that abductors who kidnapped Pierre Baldacchino in Tripoli had threatened to pull off parts of his skin where he had tattoos, including one of the cross.

The newspaper also reports comments by the finance minister that Malta will defend its current tax system in the EU.
