A man who tried to enter Malta using a false French passport, even though he was in possession of a valid Libyan document, was sent to six months in prison by a court today.

The court heard that Ali Abdulraziq Alhadi Ararah, 28, from Tripoli yesterday landed in Malta on a Medavia flight from Libya and presented a French passport. However, when it transpired that this document was false, the man presented his valid Libyan travel document and asked for asylum.

The man, who was arraigned under arrest this morning before Magistrate Ian Farrugia pleaded guilty to the charges.

Police inspector Victor Aquilina prosecuted while lawyer Chris Chircop was legal aid.
