Roma have beaten the transfer deadline to sign Argentine winger Diego Perotti on loan from Genoa.

The 27-year-old will represent the Giallorossi until June 2017 but could make his deal at the Stadio Olimpico permanent if Roma pay Genoa nine million euros.

A statement published on asroma.com confirmed Perotti, who has also played for Sevilla, had completed a medical with the Serie A club yesterday.

He said: “This is a very important step in my career. I’m glad to have joined a great team like Roma.”

Roma yesterday also agreed to loan out striker Seydou Doumbia to English Premier League side Newcastle.

The 28-year-old Ivory Coast international joined Roma 12 months ago but scored only two goals in 13 Serie A appearances.

Doumbia also had a spell on loan at his former club CSKA Moscow earlier this season.

He scored six goals in eight Champions League matches for CSKA who were knocked out in the group stages.

Fabio Quagliarella has rejoined Sampdoria on a loan deal from Torino with a view to a permanent move.

The 33-year-old forward previously played for the Blucerchiati in the 2006-07 campaign, scoring 14 goals, before earning his call-up to the Italy squad on the back of his form at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Samp also signed former Lazio and Sunderland defender Modibo Diakite from Frosinone.
