The third meeting of the season, yesterday afternoon at the Marsa Racetrack, was made up of nine all-trotting races.
The most important on the card was reserved for Premier Class and held over on a long distance of 2,640m. This race was won by Swedish horse Livi Cantona which returned to winning form after an absence of almost four years.
Fifteen horses lined up for the Premier race. Livi Cantona (Charles Camilleri), upped the tempo in the final 200m to romp home first ahead of Prieure (Claudio Refalo), Valentin Di Gite (Carl Caruana) and Quito De Neret (Mario Seguna) in that order.
There were three races from the Gold Class yesterday.
The first was characterised by a keen duel in the final straight between French Seabiscuit Noir (Rodney Gatt) and Dutch mare Zizazimoko (Paul Galea).
At the post it was Seabiscuit Noir that gained its first win at Marsa with Nevaio Des Bordes (Shawn Portelli) finishing third behind Zizazimoko.
Indeed Southwind (Kevin Sciberras) placed fourth.
Magic Broline confirmed its impeccable form by winning the next Gold race on the card.
Under the guidance of Charles Camilleri, this Swedish seven-year-old mare increased its pace in the final metres to make it a second win in a row, a whisker in front of Solide Du Jayle (Omar Cauchi).
Phenix De La Roque (Noel Baldacchino) was third and Royal In (Marco Debono) followed behind in fourth.
In the remaining Gold Class race, Smarty Jet (Marco Debono) registered its first win at the racetrack after a burst of speed in the straight for home.
Race favourite Nashville Dancer (Andrew Farrugia) had to settle for second place with Cool Caviar (Julian Farrugia) third and Midnight Hall (Mario Fenech) fourth.
