Vittoriosa Stars 0
Żebbuġ Rangers 0

Vittoriosa Stars and Żebbuġ Rangers failed to boost their flickering hopes of making the promotion play-off after cancelling each other in a drab match.

The game was a sloppy affair with the Stars holding a slight edge against a Żebbuġ side that was led by new coach Johann Cilia for the first time yesterday.

Perhaps, in the end, a draw was a fair result.

Vittoriosa threatened first when Liam Gauci’s shot finished high and wide while at the other end goalkeeper James Mercieca produced a fine save on Christian Pace’s effort.

Seven minutes from the break, Duncan Pisani hit a half volley that was well saved by Galea.

Steve Meilaq should have done better after a mix-up in the Żebbuġ area at the start of the second half.

Milan Lukic hit a wicked shot from a free-kick that almost beat Galea but the Żebbuġ keeper recovered to block.

Vittoriosa almost won it nine minutes from time but substitute Sultana fired wide from a good position following a Meilaq pass.
