Tell us something about yourself.

I’m currently living in London, working in communications and PR. I love food (slight understatement there, but for the lack of a better word lets stick to ‘love’), Harry Potter, all things tech and old Disney cartoons, especially classics like Sword in the Stone and Jungle Book.

How often do you travel?

Depends on how busy I am throughout the year, but usually around five to six times a year, plus trips back home to our lovely island.

Do you remember your first time abroad, and can you tell us about it?

Yes, vaguely. I remember travelling to Switzerland with my family to visit friends – I must have been around six or seven.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a clear recollection of the holiday, but I do remember the fresh milk. It must have left quite an impression for me to actually remember the flavour, the chocolate and the warm baguettes in the morning slathered in Nutella.

It’s not only about the food of course. I have vivid memories exploring the impressive scenery around Sion, spotting mountain goats and visiting the St Bernard rescue dogs in the Swiss Alps.

Best holiday ever and why?

Definitely my first trip to the US West Coast and canyon lands – sun, the open road, BBQs, a Smurf blue Mustang and the land of the free. What more could you ask for?

Which place would you never visit and why?

I never say never when it comes to holiday destinations. Admittedly, there are a number of places I wouldn’t visit right now, but situations change.

Best travel companion?

My partner in crime, Paul.

And what’s the worst your travel companion could do?

Lose my precious holiday cosmetics. I empty half of Boots’ counters before our big holidays – it’s my guilty holiday pleasure.

What do you usually look for when you travel?

I usually look for a healthy balance of food, adventure, culture and relaxation – whether it’s the beach or a quiet hideaway in the middle of nowhere.

The perfect holiday would be?

Full of sun, sea and new experiences. Throw in a few cuddly animals and you’ve got yourself a winner.

What’s the furthest you’ve been from home?

Vietnam, a beautiful country with kind-hearted people and a fascinating history… oh yes and amazing food.

Package tours or DIY?

Definitely DIY. I love the research and preparations before a holiday.

What is the best travel advice you can give?

Don’t stress about your holiday planning. It defeats the purpose of going on holiday in the first place.

Flying – hate it/love it/neutral?

Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of flying but without it I wouldn’t have been able to travel. So I grin and bear it, occasionally with a little of help of some liquid courage.

The one place you never get tired of visiting?

The US. I’ve been there a couple of times now and have barely explored a fraction of the country. We’re definitely due another visit.

Describe one memory that stuck with you from a place.

Exploring Vietnam on the back of a motorbike, with my poor little luggage hanging on for dear life. It was a beautiful day that is definitely up there on my list of favourite memories.

Your best budget tip to save money on holiday?

Planning in advance is always the best way to save money and ensure that you get the most out of your holiday. Not only do you have access to some of the best deals, a little advanced planning also gives you more time to organise an unforgettable holiday.

If you had to live away from Malta or London where would you pick?

If I didn’t live in London and had a choice to live anywhere, I would pick a sunny Caribbean island surrounded by pristine blue water and white sand.

Life is there to appreciate and enjoy the great experience the world has to offer

What’s the one thing you would never do in a foreign country?

I would never disrespect the locals and their country.

Anything on your travel bucket list?

I currently have a lovely long list of places I’d love to visit sitting on my desk waiting to be ticked off, including Petra and Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda. Better get planning!

Travel is important to you because... ?

It allows Paul and myself to unwind, relax and forget about any responsibilities for a week or two.

What has travel taught you?

Where would you retire and why?

Back in Malta. Nothing beats home, surrounded by family and friends.
