A host of foreign experts will be sharing their knowledge in their respective fields at a two-day seminar being held at the Yue Healthier Living complex in Naxxar on February 9-10.
The seminar, entitled ‘A practical approach to improved performance, injury prevention and treatment in the teenage years’, will feature presentations from Chris Ramsey, the technical director at English club Queens Park Rangers, Rob Swire, who spent several years working as first-team physiotherapist at Manchester United, and Tony Denton, the head of sports science and physiotherapy at the Sheffield United Academy.
Ramsey, who has close ties with Malta after his playing spell with Naxxar Lions in the nineties, will highlight the key aspects of the 12-year footballing journey from the tender age of nine right through to professional football.
Denton will discuss the multi-disciplinary team approach to reduce the risk of injury and the importance of understanding movement skills as well as developmental stages in young adults.
Swire will focus on the other end of the spectrum. His presentation will centre on the various training techniques that can impact on the teenagers making that big step into the first team.
The three English speakers will be joined by three Italian professionals, namely professor Raul Saggini, who will provide an insight into the latest research in the use of electrotherapy, Luca Russo and Marco Daprá.
Other lecturers include psychiatrist Beppe Micallef Trigona, athletics coach Mario Bonello and Nathan Farrugia, physiotherapist and long-distance performance coach
There will also be practical sessions on postural assessment of young athletes, gait and foot analysis, VO2max testing and the use of laser and diathermy in sport. More information may be obtained by sending an email to info@yuemalta.com or by calling 2258 9800.
