Today’s quotation from the Book of Proverbs, namely “The memory of the righteous one is due for a blessing, but the name of the wicked will not rot”, contains a glaringly obvious typo. It seems that the word “not” has inadvertently slipped in.

During the Counter Reformation, the hastily translated Bible by Pope  Sixtus V (1585-1590) had so many errors that Cardinal Robert Bellarmine had to intervene to somehow mitigate the resultant adverse critical reaction.

The Bible is too sacredly precious to meddle with, unless one is well and proficiently trained, which unfortunately Pope Sixtus V certainly was not.
