Adriano: Former Brazil and Inter striker Adriano has signed for fourth-tier regional league American club Miami United, the team said in a statement. The 33-year-old’s last competitive appearance was for Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense in 2014 and his career nosedived after a successful time at Inter where he scored 47 goals in 115 appearances.
Senderos: Philippe Senderos has moved quickly to secure a new club following his release from Aston Villa, signing for Swiss side Grasshoppers. The Switzerland defender, a former Arsenal, Everton and Fulham player, mutually agreed to terminate his contract on Wednesday after playing for Villa since June 2014. The 30-year-old has now opted to return to his homeland and sign a six-month deal with Grasshoppers.
Fernandez: Atletico Madrid midfielder Augusto Fernandez suffered knee ligament damage in the La Liga defeat by Barcelona yesterday. Fernandez, who joined from Celta Vigo earlier this month, was carried off on a stretcher after 75 minutes of the 2-1 loss. “He has an injury to the right knee caused by stretching the ligament,” read a statement on the club’s website.
Watford: Watford have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Mario Suarez. The 28-year-old signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Vicarage Road and joins from Serie A side Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee, understood to be around £4 million. The transfer was confirmed on the Watford website after the Hornets progressed into the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest.
Wycombe: Barry Richardson starred in his first league game for 14 years as Wycombe grabbed a shock 1-0 win over League Two promotion chasers Plymouth. The 46-year-old keeper was called into action after 15 minutes following an injury to Alex Lynch – and went on to keep a clean sheet in his first league match since April 2002. Gozie Ugwu scored the only goal of the game in the third minute for a win which prevented the hosts going back to the top of the table.
