Naxxar Lions ended a four-match losing streak when they hammered relegation rivals Qormi 5-0 at the Tedesco Stadium.

Naxxar threatened 10 minutes from half-time when David Fenech sent a curling cross into the path of Demba Toure but the Senegalese forward failed to make contact with the ball in front of a gaping goal.

But Toure made amends three minutes from half-time when he connected to David Fenech’s cross to send a dipping header past Qormi goalkeeper Andreas Vella.
Toure piled more woes on Qormi just after the restart.

The clock marked 54 minutes when Qormi wingback Alessio Cassar was judged to have handled Fenech’s cross inside the area with referee Clayton Pisani pointing to the spot.

Toure stepped up for the kick and sent Cassar the wrong way to double Tarxien’s lead.

Qormi conceded again when Ousmane Sidibe, in a bid to shield the ball from Vallecillo, inadvertently deflected the ball past Vella to put Naxxar three goals up.

Qormi were now dead and buried and Naxxar all but wrapped up the points on 76 minutes when Fenech embarked on another mazy run on the left to send a precise cross towards Toure who headed past Vella.

The Lions found time to add a fifth goal three minutes from time when Cekaj beat Vella with a firm header to complete a resounding victory.

Naxxar striker Demba Toure was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
