Basket, NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue will lead the Eastern Conference at next month’s All-Star Game despite having only three games under his belt, the NBA announced. Lue, 38, was promoted to his first head coaching position last week after the Cavaliers fired David Blatt and it comes at an opportune time for the rookie play-caller. Cleveland lead the East and All-Star head coaches are selected based on the teams which have the best records in each conference two weeks prior to the game.

Diving: Australia’s former Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham has decided to call time on his diving career and will not compete at the Summer Games in Rio this year. The 27-year-old’s 10-metre platform triumph at Beijing’s Water Cube prevented a host nation sweep of the diving golds at the 2008 Olympics but he was unable to reach the final four years later in London.

Rugby Union: The Welsh Rugby Union has called for players to inform it of any drug-taking in the sport to “protect our game”. WRU chief executive Martyn Phillips made the appeal for intelligence on doping after Maesteg Harlequins lock forward Ryan Watkins became the 12th Welsh rugby player to be suspended by UK Anti-Doping. “There is no place for doping within sport,” Phillips said on the WRU website. “Players have a responsibility to themselves, to each other, to their clubs and to the sport to act within the rules and spirit of the game.”
