Balzan bagged their third successive league victory after cruising past Qormi 5-0 at the National Stadium.

Balzan made a fast start and inside the first minute Alfred Effiong forced Qormi goalkeeper Jean Matthias Vella into a diving save.

The Qormi no.1 again distinguished himself on 20 minutes when Effiong released Alan Da Silva Souza who was denied by a fine reflex save from Vella.

Balzan’s early pressure reaped an opener on 23 minutes when from a corner action Effiong connected to Da Silva Souza’s delivery to head into the net.

Balzan doubled their lead four minutes into the second half when Lydon Micallef rammed the ball home following a Da Silva Souza cross.

Qormi were struggling to contain Balzan’s forwards and on 54 minutes Iven Zammit upended Steve Bezzina in the area and Da Silva Souza made no mistake from the spot.

Balzan maintain their search for more goals and on 61 minutes Effiong sped into the area before serving Pedrinho who stabbed the ball past Vella.

Aleksandar Vujacic, who had just replaced Pedrinho, also put his name on the scoresheet on 71 minutes when he tapped home after Da Silva Souza flicked the ball over Vella.

Balzan striker Alan Da Silva Souza was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
