Six organisations have benefited from €69,588 donated from the Good Causes Fund.

Finance Minister Edward Scicluna distributed the money raised through the National Lottery Fund during a meeting this afternoon.

The beneficiaries are Caritas Malta, the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps, the Soċjetà Mużikali Santa Marija tal-Qrendi, the Rehabilitation in Society Foundation (RISE), the Ħbieb tat-Tempju Sant’Elena of Birkirkara, and the Physically Handicapped Rehabilitation Fund.

Prof. Scicluna said such a fund could assist small entities with relatively modest requirements.

"Some say that the government should increase its contribution through the national Budget instead of making such donations. But the government has to draw a line, and someone is always left out. Thanks to this fund, everybody is covered."

The minister underlined the importance of good governance in running such a fund. No donations are given before the relevant receipts are given out.

In 2015, the Good Causes Fund totalled €948,166.
