Campus fm has announced its schedule of new programmes for the February-May quarter.Among others, this schedule will see the return of a programme produced by Patricia Salomone who, this time will be reviewing the book The Hare With Amber Eyes, by Edmund De Waal, as part of a series titled A Book, A Thousand Stories .
The programme will take listeners through the saga of the Ephrussi family, Jewish grain traders from Odessa which, in the mid-19th century set up their financial business and homes in Paris and Vienna, seeing glorious and tragic times until the mid-20th century. The programme is produced and presented by Salomone.
“I have chosen this title for my programme, because De Waals’s book is a treasure throve of characters and events that takes the reader through so many different historical situations to meet a fascinating choice of art, artifacts and artists. De Waal, a descendent of the Ephrussi family recounts his family story by following a collection of 264 little Japanese trinkets as they are collected and moved from one Ephrussi home to another in the space of approximately 100 years. It is a story of glory and despair,” Salamone said.
Producer Patricia Salomone is aided in the choice of music by Gerald Fenech, while historians Dominic Fenech and Henry Frendo; commentator Albert Storace; art student Caroline Miggiani; and lecturer Sandra Dingli contribute to enrich the episodes with information on a variety of subjects.
The programme airs on Campus fm weekly on Wednesdays at 7:30pm with a repetition on Sundays at 9.30 am. The first episode air on February 3.
