Mqabba 2
Senglea Athletic 0

Mqabba scored a goal in each half to upset third-placed Senglea and move clear of the relegation zone.

Fernando Costantino’s side fully deserved the points as they showed more composure in front of goal to clinch a morale-boosting victory.

Mqabba took the lead on 14 minutes when they were awarded a free-kick and Arilson Mello da Silva’s shot flew past goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia and into the net.

Senglea almost equalised on 25 minutes when Debono misjudged Jurgen Farrugia’s cross and in came Terrence Scerri who headed towards an empty net but Dylan Aquilina did well to clear off the line.

Ryan Dalli missed a great opportunity for Senglea on the stroke of half-time but he failed to connect to Obaje Aud-Gustine’s cross in front of a gaping goal.

On 53 minutes Mello da Silva’s shot hit the bar while at the other end Mqabba’s Goran Adamovic almost committed an own goal when his clearance came off the bar.

But Mqabba added a second in stoppage time when Avdic was brought down in the area by Jurgen Farrugia and Claudio Calleja converted the resultant penalty.
