He’s funny, he’s huge and he’s including Malta on his tour!

Neapolitan Nello Iorio, of Made in Sud fame (Raidue), is bringing his one-man comic show on to the Maltese stage this weekend with his Tutti Trocati, a satirical and quite direct reflection on everyday life.

Written and directed by the same Iorio, the performance revolves around the hilarious and very southern Nonno Moderno (modern grandpa) many are familiar with on Italian television.

The title of the show in inspired by Nonno Moderno’s strange vision of the world today, as he looks down on all those who smoke and labels them “trocati”.

To a large extent, the performance is dedicated to impersonation, for which Iorio is considered a specialist.

On tour around Italy at least since early 2014, Tutti Trocati has been very well received by all those who crack up atItalian comedy.

According to the performance’s producer, Vincenzo Manganello, himself a resident of Malta, this is an excellent occasion for Italians on the island and non-Italians to meet, socialise and take all the family to the theatre. For, while the older public can delight in Italian satire, the young ones can enjoy free animation in a special children’s corner.

The performance comes just about the publication of results of a study, released in the UK this week, which show that comedy fans can ‘tone up’ by watching some of their favourite shows.

Chuckling at sitcoms could give viewers’ muscles a workout, Helen Pilcher of the Comedy Research Project claimed, and intense laughter can help people burn as many as 120 calories an hour.

The report shows that different intensities of laughter give a range of results. Those who have already given up on their new year’s resolutions to head to the gym might prefer rolling on the floor with laughter, which is said to burn the most, at 120 calories an hour.

Alternatively, if one would rather start off slowly, sniggering can burn up to 10 calories an hour.

• Tutti Trocati is being held at Valletta City Theatre in Old Theatre Street, Valletta, tomorrow at 8pm. Tickets may be obtained at www.ticketline.com.mt.
