This Sunday, motorsport organisation Assoċjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) will hold another series of races for motocross and autocross at the Ta’ Qali complex.

Autocross cars will be competing in the sixth event of the ASMK Pasta Poiatti Championship, starting at 10.30am.

A highlight of Sunday’s programme will be the autocross rides where spectators will get a taste of racing in a car driven by an experienced autocross driver.

Last Sunday, the ASMK organised race finals A and B and a race for the autocross standard class.

Karl Scicluna (Peugeot 206), Johann Vella (Opel Nova), Melvin Buttigieg (Citroen AX), Traydon Bailey (Ford Ka) and Ian Fenech (Citroen AX) contested the A final.

The race was halted briefly following an accident involving Scicluna and Bailey who were both admonished for bad practice.

When the race restarted, Vella drove to victory followed closely by Buttigieg and Scicluna. Bailey and Fenech finished fourth and fifth respectively.

In the Class B final, victory went to Joseph Micallef at the wheel of his Opel Corsa.

Matthew Borg (Vauxhall Nova) and Jonathan Camilleri (Opel Corsa) were second and third respectively with Karl Micallef and Ryan Scicluna, both driving a Ford Fiesta, completing the top-six order.

In the autocross standard class, Christian Mark Galea (Fiat Ritmo) took the chequered flag ahead of Patrick Cassar (Opel Corsa) and Malcolm Borg (Opel Corsa).

Ivan Birmingham (Suzuki Swift) finished fourth while Josef Grech and Jurgen Mallia withdrew from the race.

Also last Sunday, the third round of the Enduro Championship was held at Ħondoq ir-Rummien in Qala, Gozo.

A total of 32 riders registered in the three classes, A for the small cylinder capacity under 250cc, B for motorcycles over 250cc and C for trials bikers.

Andrea Scicluna, riding a KTM, topped Class A with a time of 4mins 8.26secs, Matthew Gauci (Sherco) won Class B in 3:22.58 and Renato Mizzi (Beta) prevailed in Class C in a time of 4:23.06.

Gauci’s winning time in Class B was the best overall time on the day.

In a statement, the organisers thanked the Qala Local Council, Malta Transport, the Minister for Gozo, the Police and Gozo Sports Board for their continued support which is vital for the ASMK to keep staging motorsport events on the sister island.
