The Senglea Archpriest, together with the Salesian community of Senglea, is this evening commemorating the 75th anniversary of the HMS Illustrious Blitz attack.

During that ferocious attack, on January 16, 1941, 21 Senglea inhabitants lost their lives. Among these victims, there was Canon Professor John Theuma Relf, killed at the age of 30.

For this occasion, the parish and the community are presenting a concert of sacred music by the Philharmonic Society La Vincitrice, Senglea. The concert is being held at the Church of Our Lady of Porto Salvo, better known as St Philip’s church, today at 7.30pm.

The La Vincitrice band will perform musical works by Pergolesi, Faure, Albinoni, Byrd, Bach and others. The band will be under the baton of maestro Brian Cassar.

The literary content of the programme will include readings of related poems and prose. A commemorative speech on Theuma Relf will be delivered.

The public is invited to attend and entrance is free of charge.

This activity will be in aid of the Malta Hospice Movement.
