After losing the President’s Cup to Hibernians, the league clash with Għajnsielem and the FA Trophy tie against Valletta in the space of a week, Xewkija Tigers got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Oratory Youths.

Xewkija made some tactical changes from their previous outings with Daniel Bogdanovic deployed in midfield, behind strikers Thiago Melo Dos Santos, John Camilleri and Rodney Buttigieg.

Oratory, on the other hand, tried hard to avoid defeat and move away from the drop zone. Their defence looked solid for most of the match but the Youths were rather weak in attack.

Xewkija scored a goal in each half, the first a spectacular Bogdanovic volley on 34 minutes, and the second an own goal by Francesco Cini very late in the match.

In another match from the top flight, Kerċem Ajax stayed in contention after a 3-1 win over Victoria Hotspurs.

This was a direct clash for third place with Kerċem showing better qualities and creating more scoring opportunities than their opponents.

They opened the scoring very early with a close-range Claudio Antunes tap-in. Victoria argued that the ball had not crossed the line but the assistant referee allowed the goal to stand.

Kerċem then doubled their lead on 18 minutes when Elton Vella fired past the keeper but the Hotspurs re-opened the issue when Miguel Montano struck from a free-kick.

However, Montano was substituted a few minutes later after suffering an injury and the Citizens lost most of their strength in attack.

Kerċem took command of play and sealed victory with another goal from Vella 18 minutes from the end.

Division Two

Xagħra United and Nadur Youngsters shared the spoils in an entertaining clash that finished 2-2 with the Blues maintaining their four-point lead at the top of the standings.

In front of a sizeable crowd at the Sannat Ground, Nadur took the lead through a Brandon Said grounder but Xagħra turned the tide in their favour with goals after the break from substitute Daniel Bartolo (59) and Luke Attard (79).

Nadur seized the initiative in their bid to save the match and clinched a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time when substitute Elijah Xuereb tapped in from close range.

Meanwhile, Sannat Lions consolidated third place in the table thanks to a convincing 5-1 win over Munxar Falcons.

Oddly, all goals were scored in the second period.

Daniel Borg (49) put Sannat ahead but Gabriel Sillato equalised for the Falcons 10 minutes later.

Antoine Camilleri then scored twice in quick succession to put Sannat 3-1 ahead and, despite having Nicholas Micallef sent off, the Lions went on to add two more goals through newcomer Omar Xuereb (88) and Camilleri (90+2).
