The planning authority this afternoon turned down an application which sought to demolish a stretch of over 12-metres of railing in Nadur to be replaced by a 1.4 metre high wall.

Seven members voted against the development, while six voted in favour.

The authority said in a statement the proposed application was submitted to the authority for its consideration, after in 2004 a court  decided in favour of the applicant, giving him the right to delineate and segregate the public belvedere area from his property, which was right below.

The board said that, according to planning policies, the proposed development would compromise the existing green area and the public's enjoyment of it.
